It may be that God wants us to focus on our own planet's potential for progressive improvement in humanity before we (if ever) contact other beings.
The Baha'i Writings say:
"Know thou that every fixed star hath its own planets, and every planet its own creatures, whose number no man can compute."
This suggests that there are many planets in the universe, and that some of them may be inhabited by life.
Another passage states:
"The universe is as a vast and resplendent mirror, reflecting the attributes and names of its Creator. Every one of its countless orbs is a mirror, reflecting a different aspect of the divine perfections."
Rather mystical stuff, for sure, but certainly indicative of the fact that we are not alone, if not prepared enough to explore that at this time.
