Latin, when I went to high school, was the language you took if you were in the academic track. The business track had people take Spanish. I've gotten a lot of useful mileage from knowing the Latin roots of many words in English as well as the "romance" languages. Overall, it probably would have been better if I had (also) learned Spanish.
