"What are Quality Control and Quality Assurance?"

Not so sure this is a trivia question since answering it and trying to discuss the answer can be revealing about the organization's understanding and expectations. Most QA departments in (at least software) organizations do QC work and are rarely involved in actual QA.

QA is about prevention while QC is about correction. Sure, QC prevents (some) defects from going further and potentially avoids them getting into the customer's hands. But the defects are already there when QC activity finds them. They have not been prevented, only discovered.

Most organizations need to involve quality department personnel much earlier in the development process so they can actually help with prevention and be quality consultants who guide and advise other roles regarding quality including how everyone can be more effectively involved in testing..
